Century Furniture Company was established in 1947 by Harley Ferguson Shuford, Sr. The Case Goods plant opened in Hickory, North Carolina, in 1948 and the first furniture made there was an 18th-century style mahogany dining room suite, shipped the following January.

Today, Century's Case Goods plant occupies approximately 600,000 square feet of floor space, employs more than 600 people, and offers its customers a variety of furniture styles including Oriental, Italian, English, French, contemporary and transitional. Currently, more than 1,000 different items of dining room, bedroom, and occasional furniture are produced in Century's Case Goods plant. While Century does source components and some finished goods from the global market, the vast majority of its products are manufactured with painstaking craftsmanship in Hickory North Carolina.
