Half A Century Of Fine Furniture
Bevan Funnell Limited, founded in 1945 by Barry and Pamela Funnell, originally refurbished and sold second-hand furniture - from a garage in a small Brighton mews. From these small beginnings, the company grew rapidly and began making new English reproduction furniture. Larger premises soon became necessary and, as the company went from strength to strength, Bevan Funnell eventually moved to Newhaven, which is the head office and a main centre for manufacture.
Export trade has always been important to the company and, before the end of the 1940's, it was selling furniture to Holland, Belgium, Germany and even South Africa. Nowadays the company’s unrivalled furniture ranges - finished in mahogany, yewtree, walnut, oak and cherry - enjoy enduring popularity around the world, including Europe, America, the Far East and Japan.
Bevan Funnell has grown to become one of the largest and most successful manufacturers of high quality English reproduction furniture in the world. It currently:
- Owns and controls a subsidiary company in Switzerland
- Owns and controls a subsidiary company in the USA, with warehouse and showrooms in Highpoint, North Carolina
- Operates a warehouse in Canada
- Owns a factory in Newhaven
- Owns a brass foundry in Dover
- Operates its own showrooms in Holland and Belgium
Bevan Funnell manufacture high quality English reproduction furniture that is based on original styles and designs created during the 18th century. At that time, Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite and Thomas Sheraton were among the elite of designers who set new and unrivalled standards of elegance and beauty.
